Following three years of experiences through ContemDança 2, a free participation group, I am happy to announce a four module short introductory course, aimed to prepare local students on Laban applied to study and production of videodance. It should run in Joao Pessoa – Brazil between May and August 2014.

Hello Everyone, I'm writing to let you know about a new Graduate Certificate in Screendance. Please pass the word to anyone interested in an immersion year. Thanks so much.

The University of Utah College of Fine Arts is pleased to announce the creation of an interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate Program in Screendance.

As both a practice and an area of theoretical discourse, Screendance is burgeoning worldwide as evidenced by the proliferation of Screendance festivals, symposia, conferences and publications. Also known as dance for camera, cine dance, and video dance, this hybrid form, which in the past has been found at the margins of practice in the fields of dance and film, is now taking a central place as an independent art form. Through the advocacy of practitioners and scholars worldwide, the field of Screendance is articulating its richly intertwined art-historical roots as a means to understand present dance, film, digital media and art practices and how they intersect in a complex discourse of ideas about the body on screen. The certificate has been designed to meet the growing demand of dancers, choreographers, filmmakers and artists who are seeking a more in-depth experience in exploring the relationship between the moving body and the frame.

The Graduate Certificate in Screendance at the University of Utah is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Department of Modern Dance and the Department of Film & Media Arts. This program provides professional level production courses with state-of-the-art equipment, movement and theory classes and the option for Certification in Final Cut Pro. The Screendance Certificate requires a two-semester on-site commitment.

hi Allison,

I love dance science also but since not a dancer went the philosophy route. University of Washington DXArts has one of the best programs in human computer interaction, animations and theory but not sure about dance end but they are wide open to new forms!

I recently received an email from a woman seeking information regarding various intersections of dance and "science". See below
I've been out of the loop and thought that someone might be able to better direct her inquiry. Any thoughts?

My name is Allison Walker. I am looking for advice on an
interdisciplinary course of graduate study, researching the
intersection between dance and technology. My educational background includes a BFA in dance/ballet and a MS in Information, which focused on human-computer interaction. I'm not exactly sure how I found your website, but your interests seemed similar to mine so I wanted to contact you.

Interests that I'd like to research include investigations into time,
space, form and movement, movement analysis, performance theory, digital culture, and interactivity, technology and social behavior. I still love dance and if there was such a thing as "dance science", I would sign up as soon as possible. In investigating my interests, I have been researching different academic programs and looking for researchers, or possibly research opportunities, to further pursue these interests - I thought that you might have some insights and advice.

If you have any suggestions on where I might be able to look to find more information, I would appreciate any advice you have.
