Welcome to meta-academy@HZT-Bates 2015: The Pattern that Connects!

In this lab, you will be collaborating closely with other participants to explore the ways that digital online tools can connect, perform, register, aggregate, map and visualize the knowledge articulated in your choreographic research. We will be responding to your particular practices and expertise as we build the course.   Let’s get to know one another well so that together, we can create an optimal network of ideas, media, tools, and practices.  What connects us?

Activity 1: Introduce yourself in questions, keywords and media objects…

Please complete by: Thursday September 3.  23:59 GMT.
Length of time you will need to complete the activity: at least 1 hour
Format: discussion thread

There are three steps to this activity. Please approach them playfully and honestly.

1. Reply to each of the questions we have posted in this discussion forum.  Here they are together:

  • What are the questions that you are asking in your creative research?

  • What are the connections that you see between choreography and networked spaces?

  • What was the last surprising/satisfying connection you made? (a very open-ended question)

2. Reply to each of the posts you made in step 1. In your replies, please do both of the following:

a. Cook down each question into keywords/tags.  These are single words that can serves as categories or labels for your question. Create as many as you can, try for at least 15 per question. Post them as a response to the  question they came from.

b. Find media- images, videos, audio--or other links that relate to the question.  They can be your own images or ones you find in a search that Illustrate, expand, connect, juxtapose, explode, repeat, etc the question. In any event, choose media that really connect to something about your own practice. Post them as a response to the question they relate to.
You can choose to post links, to upload attachments, or to embed videos in the discussion.

TIP: To embed a video from youtube or vimeo, find it on youtube or vimeo and at the bottom of the video you will see a SHARE button, click the SHARE button, then choose EMBED.  You will see some code.  Copy and paste the code into your post and be sure that you use the HTML editor option.

3. Reply to someone else's post in any way that makes sense to you (using prose, tags, or media).

Have fun!

What are the connections that you see between choreography and networked spaces?

  1. The offline world can only use the online world using a certain type of body: the smart-phone-head-down body, the notebook-curved-back body. During the direct contact with technology, our bodys become slaves of the specificity of the object, and as we are forced by being mainly staying in the same positions, we are only allowed to experience a small part of the sensations expectrum. So every online interaction has this physical/psycological demand in the offline world.

  2. The online world offers a speed of edition, the possibility of overlapping realities, to see 10 different types of images and sound in one second: its gives the mind an ability to look at the off/online world making the sensation spectrum broader in a way that each device give us specific ways of editing. It influences the order in which we see things, creatiting then, new choreographies: new ways of disposing sensations, new possibilities of seeing old (or not not at all old) thing.

What was the last surprising/satisfying connection you made?

Last time i made an intersting conection was last Wednesday, when i had my first Maracatu lesson. I lived my whole life in Rio, and now that I am in Berlin I finally took one of those lessons. I feel that I am more connected to the culture of my country now. Virtually connected to my onw culture, Virtually connected with a part of myself.

  • What are the questions that you are asking in your creative research?

First of all i have to said that Relationship/ Interaction between 2 elements or more is one of the most fascinating observation start point. So most of my questions are growing from analysing and framing the subject i'm searching on.

I assume that phisycal/choreo performance, the field i'm in, is a language,a way to comunicate,in the meaning of a dialogue, that when is succefully there, could create something that can be universally understood. Then taste, reactions, ascription of meanings are something huge to balance and take in consideration ,to find and recognize them in order to procede in defining what is the result i want to come out.

Necessary: what is ? What has to be in ? I start from creating an overwelming amount of thing: info doc files, schemes, patterns to try to search through impro and reflections. A lot of .But most important is second step: taking off what's i felt is too much, un-necessary,doesn't fit. Is an hard time, mostly when we like a result, but has no value in the whole costruction and final target to achieve.

  • What are the connections that you see between choreography and networked spaces?

I see choreograph as a way to look down at things. As philosophy, science, is a method, a lens through wich look at life, structure, interactions. A way to observe elements, action and reaction,or how different combinations give different results.

So how we relate to architecture both fix (like buildings) and social( live experience and with the new technologies). How the anatomical structure functions in those space, how work kinects, the relation time -space.It open up a multiple layer of reflections.

  • What was the last surprising/satisfying connection you made? (a very open-ended question)

In last two years the big opportunity to collaborate with the multimedial artist Martin Romeo, the search we are doing togheter ,bringing my experience of motion into the use of kinect tecnologies and caming in touch with other artist thanks to the taking part to tematic exibitions and festivals.

The Space and Planets, Plants and Environment, meeting other choreo-maker,performer with whom i share reflections on those theme, as last work collaborations ,teaching lab and meeting of various aged collegues.

welcome to UNSTABLELANDSCAPE

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.

This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
