Ballet Pixelle

Ballet Pixelle (tm) is the first ballet company to perform in virtual space (2006). We perform original works to original music. Our dancers are from England, Estonia, Japan, Portugal, Spain, and the US and the dancers dance from home!

Virtual and Physical Dance

Posted on August 14, 2009 at 11:30pm 2 Comments

I am artistic director and choreographer for Ballet Pixelle (balletpixelle.org) and am working to explore the intersection of physical and virtual dance. I welcome any and all discussions. We are looking at avatars interacting with real dancers. We are "dancing into the digital future..." Does anyone have any experience with this?

Also, does anyone have/use a low-cost motion capture system?

Thank you for your reply. I haven't seen the film you mentioned. Is it available online? It sounds really cool what you're doing in Second Life. I think I would like that. Maybe I have to get an account there now... oh no, too many communities to keep track of... Anyway, maybe later when everything else is sorted out. :)

Hello,
I'm Emelie. I just replied to your blog post, and got interested in your work. It'd be interesting to learn how you work in Second Life. I've never used that community but I can kind of see a connection to the work we do in Tele-Plateaus. Have a look at my website http://qaw.se/cctvm.php if you feel like it.

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.
