Looks like a great idea, but a bit confusing at the moment! Is there a video that has been added for us to comment on? If so, where can I find it? And is there a curator or moderator of the discussion and videos?

Ah! I have two black boxes where videos should be, in my view of the posts, but no videos, alas.

I think a moderator is interesting if there are particular questions being asked or particular insights or responses that are trying to be gleaned. For example, if the creative team knows their work is being posted and wants to know how it impacts, that's one question. If an academic or student is trying to identify a critical framework for discussion of a particular piece or genre of pieces that is another kind of discussion. Or if the creative community is interested in finding out about processes and how they create particular outcomes or perhaps getting a feel for the zeitgeist of creativity and audiences at the moment... Not to say the conversations couldn't all co-exist, they certainly could, but maybe moderators can seed them and respond to them?

Otherwise, I'd just say that it would be really interesting to have a 'video of the week' so that we're all talking about the same thing for a short while. That way the conversation builds up a body of knowledge about one work, and, over time a body of knowledge about a range of works and about commenting on work!

I think your idea of a 'video of the week' is a great idea as well as having a moderator to 'frame' the discussions. There is always however an overlap between impact, process and content, don't you think? So how do we address this? This would be great for students as well as the producers of the work. Knowledge for receiver and producer can only improve the work.

Perhaps gut level reactions sometimes open up a discussion. From there on in the moderator can compartmentalise, tease out, hint at, ask the right questions to frame and lead the discussions under some headings. Then we can form a critical framework around the work.

These headings could be open at first and then as the work is decoded, re-framed around a trope of relevant headings that are applicable. As examples the following is a list from the humanifesto compiled during Opensource {Videodance} symposium, Findhorn, Scotland, June 2006. I am not advocating that this is THE list but it could be a start:

Ageism
Virtuosity
Semiotics
Meaning
Culture
Politics
Hybridity
Identity
Populism
Race
History

Finding the headings is quite a subjective process and a discussion around those would be most appropriate even before one starts.
