Just a thought: the only problem here could be when you live in a place without high speed and limitless internet broadband...as in South Africa where the download bit rate is very s/low and expensive if wanting to download at 1MB on an ADSL line....

And the being a Curator is even worse...you have to go so often to the Post Office to collect the damn things, pay for petrol, parking, CO2 emissions etc. We should only send DVD's when selected !

Hurray! I've had enough of burning dvd's, then standing in Post Office queues, then hoping that the postal services are not on strike AGAIN, and then having to pay extra $$$$ for speed deliveries or for courier services so the dvd get in on time.....

wish i could come, but have to make work here...maybe one day carolina when the cold and rain gets too much.

Love these images of innocence at 1:22 1:34 4:47...i really wanted to see them use the environment a bit more, but still loved the hesitation and gentleness with which they explored this environment. I also wanted more diegetic sound, but that is ...

How do you train yourself or your performers. How do you approach your embodied practices? what kind of technique do you use?
I walk, cycle, do yoga and swim, pilates, stretch and meditate. Use contact improv, movement improv, text and visual design to allow for performers to engage with themetics of the work, employ others to create interactive platforms for live performances and shoots, employ aspirant directors on my shoots. My performers mostly train separately from me and come in only when needed. Dance technique is dependent on the context or concept of the work. I employ those with a technique that I need. Dancers find the movements and I re-arrange, montage/edit them.
How do you relate your work to the goal of this site? how would you like to participate?

Jeannette Ginslov, (Denmark/South Africa) MSc Screendance graduate, with Distinction, School of Media Arts and Imaging, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee, Scotland. She is Artistic Director of Walking Gusto Productions, a video dance maker, multimedia artist and curator for montage video dance festival & moves09 Africa! She collaborates with artists and performers from a variety of media and contexts. Her dance videos, interactive media installations and internet platforms explore the amplification of the authentic and the digital, the emotional and kinaesthetic to heighten empathetic viewer responses and combines dance, music, text, video and interactive media in a stimulating exploration of the notion of identity and how this notion is tied in with conceptions of freedom and otherness.

Hi Jeanette, I love Sandys review - it tells more about the eye of the viewer than the work, as all critics do.
But what the hell is the 'chthonic realm', have never been there? I think the work, especially the slo-mo, allows lots of projection on it.
Best regards Lutz

no organisation that admins this idea that i know of but maybe there's a new project for someone (?) Maybe i could mention this at the next Moves Board meeting. As for BBC BIG SCREENS MOves had its touring program on there... i also had stuff featured at Leeds, Bradford and Manchester. I know the guy that runs Leeds pretty well can supply you with contact if you like? best

Hi Jeanette. Check out the BBC Big Screens (in many cities across the UK) which sometimes feature dance videos and are a quick way to mainstream audiences. I think they are attracted to dance stuff cos it's relatively immediate and the audiences tend to 'encounter' the screens in passing. I know the Leeds screen are always on the look out for new and non commercial content... as for cinemas, you may have some luck with the small independents but i doubt that the major chains will even talk to you. Best.
