Dr Karen Pearlman is the author of Cutting Rhythms, Shaping the Film Edit (Focal Press) and co-director of the multi-award winning Physical TV Company. Through Physical TV she has produced or directed numerous highly acclaimed shorts that have screened at over 200 national and international festivals, a project for mobile phones and the dance-noir feature film Thursday’s Fictions (ABC-TV). She was a writer/producer on Thursday's Fictions reincarnation into the form of an interactive virtual world in Second Life.

Karen is currently a project investigator on an ARC Linkage Research grant looking into interactive media innovation [imi], and is also working on a curatorial research project under the auspices of a grant from from Critical Path, NSW. She frequently moderates panels and events for the Australian Screen Editors Guild and serves as a judge for film festivals. Her publications include her work as co-editor of Performing the Unnameable; An Anthology of Australian Performance Texts (Currency Press, 1999) and she has published essays and articles in Lumina, The International Journal of Screendance, Metro, RealTime, The Journal of Performance Studies and other anthologies, conferences proceedings and journals. Karen’s other careers include professional editor - 2009-2010 President of the Australian Screen Editors Guild; and professional dancer - performing on the Opera House stages of the world and directing two dance companies. She holds a Doctorate of Creative Arts from UTS, two MAs – one from UTS and one from AFTRS, and a BFA in dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
