We propose the creation of a self portrait video inspired by the Screentests conceived and produced by Andy Warhol from 1964 to 1966.
In Warhol’s screen tests, subjects were filmed with his stationary 16mm Bolex camera resulting on a series 2 and half minutes unbroken shots of silent film portraits of Factory regulars.
The subjects were asked to sit in front of the camera and not to talk. Just sit there and feel the camera.
This is one of the screen tests:
We propose the reenactment of Warhol's screen tests using the video sharing site YouTube and a webcam. You will need to be connected to the internet to be able to capture directly to the YouTube server.
How does it work?
The process has two phases:
Phase 1: Capturing the video
-Sit in front of your computer and try to reproduce the camera angle, lighting and framing and background from the video shown before.
-Open a browser window with your Youtube account. Log in.
-Click in the upload button.
-In the right column click on Record to create a webcam capture.
-Authorize YouTube to connect with your webcam.
-Click on "allow"
-You will be in the recording window and you will see your self in on the video window. The video is shot in color and a black & white effect is applied later
-Adjust your chair, proximity, lights and framing to match the Warhol screenshot. Find a similar background if possible.
-Start recording clicking on the red button. Don”t talk and try to be “yourself” and be aware of your relation with the camera.
-Capture from 2 to 3 minutes. Starr recording. Click button to stop.
-Click play to watch and click Upload when ready.
-Fill up the upload page/form:
Format for the video title:
(Your name or user handle)’s screentest @ minded motion lab

IMPORTANT: select your privacy settings:
make the video “public” or “Unlisted”
Category: education
tag: screentest, metaacademy, minded motion lab
-SAVE your video settings and wait until video is processed and published.
Phase 2: Add Black & white filter
-Go to the video page of the video that you captured.
-Click on the “enhancements” on the bottom of the video.
-Apply the black and white “old fashioned” effect and “fine tune the lighting and color”.
-Adjust the saturation, contrast and fill light.
-You can trim the video if you want to.
-When done, save the video. It will at least 15 minutes to be ready.
You will receive an email on your email associated with your YouTube account when video is ready.
-Embed the video on this thread.
On the video page, click on share>embed to get the “embed code” and select the video size of 480X360

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE
This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.
We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary community interacting and embedded unstablelandscape.
This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
