The information website about contemporary dance in southern hemisphere countries is now on line!

Available in English, French and Spanish, www.south-south.info offers a general view of the main contexts of exchange for contemporary dance in the countries of the southern part of the planet and intends to stimulate and facilitate international exchange, cooperation and circulation of artists and ideas from South to South.

www.south-south.info can be used as both an everyday working tool and as a travel guide for all dance professionals. Its realization has been made possible thanks to the dedication and valuable cooperation of several consultants in each country.

www.south-south.info starts with South America, Cuba and Mexico and is regularly updated. End of 2008 it will cover the Latin American region with Central America and Caribbean and start the preparation to include Africa and Middle East from 2009 onwards.

We thank you in advance for spreading the word about this website.

south-south.info is an initiative of Gilles Jobin Company/South-South Project accomplished by Isabel Ferreira (Bonito&Compri - Brasil) in collaboration with the Red Sudamericana de Danza – RSD (South American Dance Network). It counts with the support of the Archivo de Artes Escénicas (Scenic Arts Archive) of the Castilla la Mancha University, Aula de Danza of Alcalá de Henares University, Pro Helvetia Swiss Arts Council and the Department of Africa and Caribbean in creation of CULTURESFRANCE - Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

thanks for this Gille. I am actually in Scotland, Dundee University doing an MSc in Screendance this year, ending Sept. I will definately contact Isabel and get onto your newsletter. Montage video dance festival that I and Gerard Bester run in SA, is being supported by IFAS - French Institute in SA and is archiving all the montage videos for study purposes. But I will contact Jasper as well to see what can be doen to extend the festival. At present it shows in Johannesburg - FNB Dance Umbrella, Durband - Jomba! and the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. But all without financila support.

I am also keen on sending you my next video that I am stating to work on from monday, perhaps you can show it at your festival. Also starting to work with podcasts. Great you were in SA. MID is one the longest running companies in SA and are managing to stay running despite back funding and economic problems in SA. Many best wishes, Jeannette

Dear Jeanette,
I saw the video of the south african dancers on dacne tech. Thought you were fro SA! I was in Sa a while ago doing a workshop with moving into dance. I have more links with Maputo and the local dance scene. ou might know that Pro helvetai, the arts council of Switzerland has an office in cape town run by Jasper Walgrave. So this is the reason why we try to do things in Southern Africa. We will invite choreogrpahers from mozambique (esculturas humanas) to take part in the Geneva Session in june and hopefully support them through a festival for a new work. For anything around south-south.info website, you should contact Isabel Ferireira (Spanish living in Brazil isabel.zarzuela@terra.com.br ) who is the person who managed all the work on south south.info She is also active member of the south american network REDSD (partnber of Dance tech). Well that is that for now... But yes, do keep in otuch with what you do. The next edition of our workshop Geneva Session will be around the idea of dance and images and Marlon Barrios will take part. ON eof the idea would be to ake a workshop with a sall festival of short internet videos. Get yourself on my newsletter to receive the info, still not available (only laste ditins onmy website). Do you come to europe sometimes? http://www.gillesjobin.com/spip.php?rubrique141

keep in touch

Gilles

All the best

Gilles
