I am seeking open source/free video editing software that is capable of experimental, creative play - for my own creative projects and to compile a resource for other artists.

As I've discovered, iMovie 8 does not allow plug-ins.
Final Cut costs money.

So, as a young artist entering the field of video/dance/documentation/new media I wonder what the other options are.

Please share your insights and provide resources.

Greatly appreciated, MH

Hi Mathew.
Have you checked out http://www.jumpcut.com/...online video editing software. I'm not sure what the limitations on quality or format are, but it's work a look.
Was doing an unrelated search and came upon this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_open_source_software_packages#...

Some of it seems as if its been updated fairly recently.

As a token disclaimer, I can not guarantee that the final output of any of these applications will meet any specification required in order to meet any technical standards, either TenduTV's, that of our distribution partners, or other potential distribution outlets. This should not be considered an endorsement of any of these platforms.

Also, in re: Jumpcut. Beyond the filesize limitation, which basically ensures that any work that could be created can't be used for any professional purpose, you should read the terms of service very, very carefully, as it does involve giving Yahoo certain rights to distribute and monetize the uploaded material.
