This workshop will hone our skills of listening, both via movement and sound. It will stretch our skills as improvisers and choreographers/composers. Relationships between movement and sound will be explored with rigor through many strategies that force us beyond a simple call and response chain of reactions. The workshop will stretch the performers in unexpected ways to chart new territory and reclaim the imagination. We will play with resonances in the body, in the room, outside, and with instruments using extended techniques. Focusing on non-narrative logic, we will work towards a heightened sensibility paired with gutsy applications of skills within chance, to wake ourselves up to new options as artists. This workshop will span the continuum from open to highly structured improvisation as we move into mini-instant compositions.

DOUBLE-EDGE DANCE is a contemporary dance and music company co-founded in 1993 by choreographer/dancer Kora Radella and composer/saxophonist Ross Feller. Double-Edge Dance work has been performed in cities including Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Basel, Cleveland, London, and New York City. Double-Edge Dance conjures multiple perspectives by utilizing a diverse array of artistic themes and processes. Double-Edge Dance works with contradiction and juxtaposition, layering materials and images including idiosyncratic movement invention, unpredictable phrasing, full 3-dimensional motion, and disorientation paired with point-on precision.

KORA RADELLA is the choreographer and co-artistic director of BOOMERANG and Double-Edge Dance. Double-Edge Dance work has been performed in cities including Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Basel, Cleveland, London, and New York City. BOOMERANG’s work has been presented in NYC at venues including Judson Church, Center for Performance Research, Dixon Place, Triskelion Arts, the Irondale Center, and at the United Nations, as well as in Cleveland, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. Radella is in residence in Berlin at Lake Studios for May with Double-Edge Dance and for June with BOOMERANG in 2015. Noted for her use of "awkward grace," Radella researches being on the edge of control, pushing both physical and psychological balances.

ROSS FELLER is an accomplished composer, saxophonist, theorist, educator, and co-founder of Double-Edge Dance. Currently he is an Assistant Professor of Music at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, where he teaches classes in theory, composition, and computer music. He has also taught at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. His compositions have received awards from the Ohio Arts Council, ASCAP, Gaudeamus Foundation, and have been commissioned and performed throughout the US and Europe. As a saxophonist he has performed with Doctor Nerve, Jim O’Rourke, Roscoe Mitchell, George Lewis, Peter Evans, and many others.

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.

This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
