Omar Rajeh, choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of Maqamat Dance Theatre, studied at the Lebanese University (diploma in Theatre Arts), and at the University of Surrey, England (MA Dance Studies). In 2002, after having worked and performed with a number of companies, directors and choreographers in Lebanon and abroad, he founded Maqamat Theatre Dance in Beirut. He has choreographed a number of pieces for the company, including. ‘Beyrouth Jaune’(2002), Guerre Au Balcon (2003) which won the award for ‘best technique’ and ‘critics and journalists award’ in Journée Théâtrale du Carthage, Tunisia, ‘Shutter Speed’ (2003) co-produced by House of World Cultures-Berlin and Yatf, ‘Mental Masturbation’ (2004), “White Coffee” (2005) produced by Beirut Street Festival-Zico House, ‘Concerto 13’ (2006) which was produced by Beiteddine Festivals and Beirut International Platform of Dance (BIPOD), “Concerto 13/ 2nd Movement” (2007) which was co-produced by ‘Dancing on the edge-Amsterdam’ and ‘Grand Theatre-Groningen’.

Omar himself is the founder of BIPOD (Beirut international Platform of Dance), an annual contemporary dance festival in Beirut which is one of the most important dance festivals in the region. The festival always offer a rich international program of performances, debates, lectures and workshops.

Omar is also the founder of Autumn Dance, a platform for dance research and exchange. He has also recently opened ‘Maqamat Dance Studio “MT Dance Space’ and “TAKWEEN-Beirut contemporary dance school’, an intensive training program for professional dancers and choreographers. Co-founder of Masahat Dance Network, which is a regional network for contemporary dance (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Jordan).
