Areas of interest on performance and new media
New music, dance, theater, art...everything...
I'm interested in creating multi-media environments, alternative spaces with colors, images, sound, and movement that invite curiosity, evoke contemplation, and spread joy.

As a TIMARA and Dance major at Oberlin, I have the opportunity to create, organize, and produce my own performances and recitals (for my upcoming junior recital, I'll be performing original music for voice, guitar, and electronics, collaborating with contemporary dancers and musicians, organizing lighting and visual effects -from interactive video to bubble and fog machines! -, and hopefully setting up a striking yet comfortable recital-watching environment). It would be wonderful to continue doing this kind of work after graduation, and I especially look forward to collaborating with other artists on similar projects as well as installations. I want to swim between medias, from dance and music (improvisation, recorded audio, real time effects processing, etc), to interactive video and visual art ("scenery", "lighting", art installations...)

But it's not just about the art. By sharing our creativity, our ideas, our visions, we have the unique opportunity to challenge diverse audiences, encourage an appreciation for beauty, and inspire people to become whoever they want to be. This is why I want to work on new and interdisciplinary art - there is so much to assimilate in today's world, and so much to aspire to...what better way to reflect and augment that than with our art?

Hi Katie,
It is nice to meet you. I'm currently not in the UK at the moment but will be returning in less than a month. If you are heading to London, Johannes Birringer has been doing work and bringing in incredible people to do lectures on interdisciplinary and multimedia performance. He is on staff at Brunel University in West London. Here is his website: http://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/acad/sa/artstaff/drama/johannes. Here is his link here: http://www.dance-tech.net/profile/JohannesBirringer.

I used to participate in ADAPT, ASU and Johannes was one of our partners. He is incredible and always thought provoking. I would also add that since you are in the mid-west, I would also recommend contacting Kelly Gottesman. I've had the opportunity to work with him through ADaPT and collaborated with him on a project a few years back. Johannes was a mentor to Kelly and Kelly is an incredible talent himself. Here is his link here: http://dancetech.ning.com/profile/KellyGottesman.

When you get to London don't hesitate to contact me. I will be honest, I'll be learning my way around but I do know where a few dance studios are. I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Apryl
