Artistic Statement:

As the Artistic Director of Cadence, I am interested in exploring interdisciplinary collaborations and producing innovative, visually stimulating, and athletic dance work of the highest caliber which is accessible and engaging to a broad range of audiences.

I am currently in the process of building a Toronto-based company which I call "progressive contemporary ballet" as it seamlessly blends movement from ballet, jazz, modern and hip-hop and is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance.

I am passionate about building bridges between art forms and communities and believe dance should be accessible to the whole public. I truly value outreach and also believe by exposing audiences to contemporary art at any age inspires them to be creative thinkers throughout their life.

I see contemporary art not as a style but rather an expression of the present time. I believe that youth specifically are more willing to accept art which is of the now. They can better relate to it and, therefore, are more likely to absorb it. My art, however, is also rooted in the classical form of ballet and is influenced by that historic art form. I see the value in showing the public art which blends past and present. I feel that respecting that which came before us and showing how it has value in the present day instills a respect for education, history and art in general.

I look forward to creating art works specifically for schools, churches, community events and festivals with programs developed for interactive talks and workshops with the audience. By offering performances and classes to pre-professional and professional dancers and workshops for all ages and levels I hope to bring a higher appreciation and understanding of Canadian contemporary art.

I believe strongly in the support of healthy working dancers and value of art. I will abide with the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists' professional standards in all my dealings with my dancers.

welcome to UNSTABLELANDSCAPE

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.

This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
