This is a short 35 minute documentation of the full performance And All the Question Marks Started to Sing, by Norwegian-based art collective Verdensteatret. It was edited by artist and Verdensteatret's technical co-ordinator Piotr Pajchel.
And All the Question Marks Started to Sing is the opening event of FuturePerfect 2011, a new performance, media, art & technology initiative in New York City. Produced in partnership with leading national and international cultural institutions, FuturePerfect highlights new hybrid performance practices, media forms and artistic ideas that emerge as digital technologies and other non-human systems become increasingly inseparable from contemporary culture. Wayne Ashley is FuturePerfect’s Founding Artistic Director.
And All the Question Marks Started to Sing is co-presented with Dance Theater Workshop and Performance Space 122. Performances will take place in Dance Theater Workshop’s Bessie Schönberg Theater (219 West 19th Street) Thursday – Saturday, February 24 - 26, at 7:30pm; and Sunday, February 27 at 5pm.
In 2011, it will be 25 years since Verdensteatret’s 1986 founding. The group is recognized as one of the leading Norwegian art collectives, known for surprising uses of new and old technologies in the making of contemporary theater, performance and art. Verdensteatret’s works are presented internationally in a variety of contexts, including galleries, music festivals and theaters.
Based in Oslo and led by Lisbeth J. Bodd and Asle Nilsen, Verdensteatret has long had strong ties to the European, especially German, theatrical tradition that includes Brecht, Walter Benjamin and Heiner Müller. Following experiments in fields such as visual performance, environmental theater and text-based theater, the group has recently tended toward the ambitiously interdisciplinary. Today, Verdensteatret consists of video artists, computer animators, sound engineers, musicians, artists and a painter, among others. They collaborate in what they call a “flat structure” where “everyone has a hand in with everything.”
Verdensteatret’s members are: Lisbeth J.Bodd, Asle Nilsen, Håkon Lindbäck, Piotr Pajchel, Kristine R. Sandøy, Christian Blom, Eirik Blekesaune, Espen Sommer Eide, Hai Nguyen Dinh, Øyvind B. Lyse, Thorolf Thuestad, Ali Djabbary, Hans J. Skogen, and Gjertrud Jynge.

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE
This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.
We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary community interacting and embedded unstablelandscape.
This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
