Parnasus è un video che racconta un sogno. E come tutti i sogni nasce da una piccola immagine annidata nella mente. L'immagine è una statua di marmo bianco come la neve. Ma non mi lascio trascinare dal miraggio di Winckelmann che ancora oggi soggioga la nostra fantasia. Tutto quel bianco mi disorienta. Mi sento perduta, ho bisogno di macchie di colore come fossero i segni su una mappa. Un equivoco storico, quello di Winckelmann, che diventa metafora di quell'equivoco ancora più profondo e pericoloso, ovvero l'illusione che il passato, cristallizzato in una sorta di nobile e astratta proiezione, sia sempre migliore di noi, sia sempre perfetto. Così nel mio sogno restituisco alle statue il colore negato. Quel colore cancellato dal passare del tempo, come si cancellano i vinti e si dimenticano i mali del mondo. Restituisco il sangue alle statue antiche, e con il sangue la ferocia e la violenza che pervade da sempre la storia umana, in un loop infinito di morte e illusione. Una violenza assoluta e insopportabile che con la loro irreale perfezione quelle levigate e sfuggenti icone dovrebbero forse esorcizzare? Un sogno che serve quindi ad astrarsi dal sogno, per tornare a parlare del mondo reale.

C'è anche un secondo livello di lettura.
Il filmato è stato realizzato nei laboratori Cine Ars di Cinecittà, gestiti da una famiglia che da generazioni realizza elementi scenografici per il Cinema. Ma il crescente uso del 3d e della Computer Graphic sta mettendo a rischio il loro lavoro, trasformandolo in moderna archeologia. Il sogno parla dunque anche di un Presente che è già Passato.
Così ho ritagliato quelle statue di gesso dall'inquadratura, le ho riggate con uno scheletro 3d e le ho animate. Una manipolazione digitale all'ennesima potenza in cui il finto-ma-vero analogico diventa ancora più finto, cercando di sopravvivere l'Era Digitale.

Parnasus is a video that tells a dream. And like all dreams, it comes from a small image nested in the mind. The image is a marble statue white as snow. I've never been driven by the fantasy of Winckelmann that still subdues our imagination. All that white marble disorients me. I feel lost, I need color spots as if they were signs in a map. A misunderstanding, that of Winckelmann, that becomes the metaphor for an even deeper and more dangerous mistake: the illusion that the past, crystallized into a kind of noble and abstract projection, it is always better than us, it is always perfect.
So in my dream I return to the statues the color denied. The color erased by the passage of time as you cancel the losers of history and forget the evils of the world. I return the blood to the ancient statues, and the ferocity and the violence that always pervade human history, in an infinite loop of death and delusion.
An absolute and unbearable violence that with their unreal perfection those white icons had perhaps to exorcise.
A dream that serves to abstract from the dream, to return to talk about the real world.

The video was shot in Cine Ars, the famous laboratory in Cinecittà Film Studios managed by a family that from generations creates props and scenographies for movies. But the growing use of CGI in movies are putting their work in danger, narrowing their field of action and transforming their work in modern archeology. An image of a Time that is already the Past.
So I thought to treat the fake statues has 3d graphics, cutting them out from the video frame, rigging them with a 3d skeleton and animating them.
The hand-made Analogic fake but real becomes even more fake, while recycling itself to survive the Digital Age.
