ICS. Small conversations in Opera House Lane East 2

Masters in Art and Design majoring in dance and video by Mike Baker. This dance study is part of a wider exploration into activating places which one could term semi-redundant or conduit spaces. The aim, through movement or activity which one would not normally expect to see or find here, is to occupy and inhabit spaces which are tucked away on the edge or periphery of our everyday involvement with the city. Incongruous or disassociated movement lends a certain surreal note to the place, activates it and encourages a question in the mind of the viewer - what is going on here? What was that? There is evidence of indeterminacy here - through our Authentic Movement and Contact Improvisation modes and through the random movement of other users of the space. Our movement tracks and negotiates the space in a fresh way, hoping to instigate a different kind of energy, useage and 'almost' dialogue with strangers in these forgotten environments. Subliminal events half-noticed from a distance in the middle of a busy day.
