Duality of Being: Yoga Trend or Transcendence...

Balancing our metaphysical being in our physical form

We are all dual beings, having both a physical and metaphysical experience at the same time. Yoga is a practice to balance this duality; to connect our body and mind awareness. Yoga gives us tools to sense our inner presence in the physical form. However, the aim of Yoga has changed with the currents of culture. As our society has moved away from our more spiritual nature in terms of daily activities, and more towards that of capitalistic/physical aim, where does this leave the balance between our spiritual and physical nature in the way Yoga is practiced?

• Is the practice of Yoga becoming a “quick fix” for loss of spirituality? Is the culture of trendy Yoga replacing and disguising a much-needed structural shift in society? Or is it becoming a catalyst for positive activism for such a structural shift that we are seeing in social movements?
