Stimulate Dance is participating in the NACHMO Challenge - beginning Jan 1 a slew of American dance artists will be researching, creating, probing, and documenting every day for 31 days.  Join us?

 

We're using this time to investigate the question of a how different body parts communicate to us, and what they say, in a project called Converse with Me.

The Challenge
Make art daily for 31 days from January 1st to 31st, 2011.

Why
Making art
As artists and freelancers we often must craft our own project outlines and deadlines. Giving ourselves a goal as a community encourages us to make our intentions tangible.

Last year dance artists inspired by the first annual NACHMO! created over 10 new works, and with our new art celebrated new productions, festival acceptances, and even MFA graduate school matriculation.

Making money
Like yoga studios that have you register and pay for a "30 day challenge," this is also a way to fundraise; ask your supporters for money. Remind them that just $10 a day could pay for a whole hour of studio space, and with just 31 people contributing, you've got 31 hours paid and a whole month's worth of daily space.

Forward the sample fundraising email found below. Remember to fill in your own name and address to start receiving new funds.

Sample Goals
Start that piece! Email your collaborating artists, meet up, and get it going.
Create a 20 second phrase every day - by January's end you'll have 10 minutes
Split the cost of space with dance buds; rehearse weekly. In between, plan & practice at home.
Polish the text you've been writing for that unique solo
Make an at-home schedule and reserve living room time to dance
Whatever you do, do something art-related every day.
