The Person
MARTA OLIVERES I TORTOSA

Barcelona, 1960
Catalan, Spanish, French, English, Italian

I have worked in the world of the performing arts since the 1980s. I took my first steps in 1984, when I started to work with the company Comediants, and in 1988, when the company La Fura dels Baus hired me as a road manager for their 1988-1989 tour. I was the group’s first road manager from the world of theatre.

I am self-taught in the field of cultural management. In 1990 I took an MBA for SMEs run by the EMI Foundation for the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.

Since 1991 my work has been aimed at the sector of up-and-coming artists just setting out on their career, following a philosophy of contents and styles that has helped me progressively consolidate a brand that is recognised on the international market: MOM/ELVIVERO.

I have been a member of the IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting, http://www.ietm.org) since 1992. I sat on its board of directors between 2005 and 2009. Together with David Márquez Martín de la Leona, I organised the 2010 Bilbao-Gijón IETM Satellite Meeting.

In 2009 the National Council for Culture and the Arts in Catalonia was set up, the first arts council in southwest Europe. I sat on its first board of directors until I resigned, together with the chair and eight of the nine other members, in 2011 in protest at political meddling with the institution.

In the field of training, I have worked with La Belle Ouvrage, where I gave training sessions on Spanish cultural policies, as well as with the University of Alcalá de Henares (master’s in performing arts), the University of Girona (master’s in art criticism), AATE de Danza in the Basque Country (training sessions), ADDET in Galicia (training sessions) and LaBoral in Gijón (masterclass).

I helped organise MIT (itinerant working committees) in 2009, Performing Arts Meetings in Murcia in 2010 and Plataforma.

My collaborations with institutions include: Teatro Central in Seville to organise the Spanish tour of an Emio Greco production, deputy producer at Théâtre Paris-Villette for Carles Santos’s project Sama Samaruck Suck Suck (2000), and the Centro Coreográfico Galego in 2010 as coach for two coproductions (by the companies Entremans and Quique Peón).

Challenges
COMPANIES

MARTELI
In 1990 I set up Marteli together with Eli Vidal. Marteli produced the premieres of shows by Sol Pico, Los Los, Senza Tempo and Margarita Guergué. As Barcelona basked in the glory of the 1992 Olympics, incompatible temperaments meant Marteli came to a close at the end of that year.

MARTA OLIVERES MANAGEMENT (MOM)
In 1991 I set up my agency, building on my experience of working with Comediants for six years as their manager and international road manager. This helped me specialise in international promotion and in 1993 La Fura dels Baus asked me to handle the international distribution side of their shows. That same year Carles Santos requested my services for the international promotion and executive production of his shows. Working with La Fura dels Baus and Carles Santos enabled me to create another area in the company to produce R&D.
I have consistently followed a very specific, coherent line with artists, performances, contents and styles, which is what makes my agency stand out from the rest. I have always sought to bolster the business framework with the artistic contents of the artists I have worked with.

MOT MANAGEMENT I GESTIÓ CULTURAL, SLU
In 2005, given the impressive growth of MOM, I set myself up as a sole-shareholder limited-liability company.

The agency/platform has two management areas:

MOM (Marta Oliveres Management)
This area deals with the national and international distribution and production of artists’ activities. Between 1998 and 2006 it worked with Marcel·lí Antúnez, Roger Bernat, Carles Santos and Hermanos Oligor, amongst others. It is currently working with Sociedad Doctor Alonso, Xavi Bobés - Playground, Germana Civera, Cabo San Roque and David Espinosa. All these artists have their own business brand (limited-liability company or association).

EL VIVERO
This is a platform and business structure for artists. It currently includes creators Sonia Gómez, Nico Baixas El Vivero handles matters relating to the administration, production, distribution and promotion of artists and their different artistic projects. Vivero is the area where I can develop mentoring program for a new artists

EDICIONES EL VIVERO
In 2007, I teamed up with Jordi Lluró to launch Artributøs, a quarterly magazine designed as a handbook for the Spanish performing arts, without being distracted by the transient, superficial side to what is in or out of fashion. The editor for the magazine’s first phase was Quim Pujol. This project is currently on hold until the economic climate improves.

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.

This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
