Ramya Ramnarayan is a senior disciple of veteran Gurus Swamimalai Rajarathnam and Kalanidhi Narayanan. Through her Production Company and school - Nrithyanjali www.nrithyanjali.org, Ms. Ramnarayan preserves promotes and propagates Bharatanatyam with zeal and dedication. She has extended the outreach of Bharatanatyam at various dance festivals, universities, & museums all over the world and under the auspicious of the Young Audiences NJ/PA reaching out to over 10,000 audience members per year. She holds a visiting faculty appointment in the Dance Department at Mason Gross School of Arts, affiliated to Rutgers University.
Some prominent awards and recognition conferred on her include :membership in the Board of Trustees of the NJ Asian American Study Foundation, Nrithya Kala Sevamani Award from the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival 2008, Nadanamamani Award from Kartik Fine Arts in Chennai 2005, the prestigious Kalaimamani award from the state of Tamil Nadu, India,2003..Ramya received a fellowship for choreography from the NJ State Council for the Arts, 2008, She is also an Indian Council for Cultural Relations Empanelled artist.
