Counted among the leading exponents of Bharatanatyam today, Ramya Ramnarayan combines legacy, expertise and experience. A protégé of two exponents of the dance form, Kalaimamani, SK Rajarathnam Pillai and Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan, Ramya is recognized as a capable performer, choreographer, educator and a torch bearer of this art, who blends tradition with innovation.

Though her manner is often youthfully sweet, Ms. Ramnarayan is also capable of sternness and force. Only gradually do you realize that she is a considerable virtuoso and a complex stylist. . – Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times, accurately referring to her capabilities as a performer

Ramya Ramnarayan is a “Kalaimamani” awardee (Tamil Nadu State award, India) among other awards and she is an ICCR empaneled artist. Ms. Ramnarayan recently received the prestigious “A” grade from Government of India Doordarshan (Indian public service broadcaster). “Nadanamamani”(Kartik Fine Arts, Chennai, India), Nrithya Seva Mani (Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, USA), Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey have passed a joint resolution recognizing Ramya Ramnarayan for her commitment, dedication and achievement in the art. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts recognized Ramya as a leading crafter of the art form through grants under the Master-Apprenticeship program.

Ramya has performed in prestigious venues world over such as the Madras Music Academy, International Fringe Festival, Asia Society, Lincoln Center, Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, Zollener Arts Center, Mission City Performing Arts Center, San Francisco, University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University New Brunswick, Newark and Camden NJ, Stockton College of NJ, Montclair University, Kean University, Drew University, Wesleyan College, Lehigh University, Muhlenberg College, Newark Museum, Allentown Museum, Philadelphia Arts Museum, Please touch Museum, Morris Museum and at various festivals throughout the world. She has conducted lecture demonstrations at numerous schools, colleges, libraries reaching out to over 10,000 audience members per year. She was a visiting faculty appointment in the Dance Department at Mason Gross School of Arts, affiliated to Rutgers University. Ms. Ramnarayan is a gallery artist with Pentacle, roaster artist with Young Audiences of NJ and Eastern PA, and empaneled artists with ICCR.

Through the Production Company and school – Nrithyanjali, Ms. Ramnarayan’s work is created to retain roots in the collective history of philosophy, spirituality, mysticism, and myth of Indian heritage while bringing the eloquence of Bharatanatyam to universal themes.

Ramya Ramnarayan recently released a dance DVD, which is a tribute to her Guru the legendary S K Rajarathnam Pillai in his treasured voice, Bharatanatyam demo of his repertoire and choreography by Ms. Ramnarayan. In connection she also presented a full length concert at the Cleveland Aradhana.

welcome to UNSTABLELANDSCAPE

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.

This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
