Maqamat DanceHouse is a new venue for the creation and presentation of dance performances in Lebanon. It is located in Hamra and will program local and international artists on weekly basis. The 'House' aims at encouraging residencies and creations in the city as well as creating a strong condition for the continuous development and progress of contemporary dance. After the performances the audience is always invited to have a drink and discuss the work with the artist(s). Maqamat will also be producing a number of works for the house.

Realizing new ideas and implementing them is never an easy task in such difficult political and social situations. However, such difficulties initiate a strong motivation for change and a reason for creating a strong artistic and cultural scene.

It is extremely important for a city like Beirut to have a dance venue. This space comes out of a need in Beirut especially after the success of BIPOD and the great interest in contemporary dance. Maqamat DanceHouse is a unique space in Lebanon that will allow audiences to watch local, regional, and international dance performances throughout the year.

The program is focusing on contemporary dance, however we would like to expand the boundaries of the works and encourage more inter-disciplinary works and collaborations between dancers, choreographers, poets, musicians, visual artists, film makers, writers, and photographers. It is a very flexible program that aims creating a repertoire of local contemporary dance and allowing as much people as possible to see the works.
