Applications for ArtEZ Master of Choreography (2012-2014)

The ArtEZ Master of Choreography program in Arnhem, Netherlands will be accepting applications for their new cohort of students (2012-2014).

The ArtEZ Master of Choreography is a 2 year full-time (though partially residential) practice-led master study in choreography. It is rooted in contemporary international choreographic practice and offers the student the possibility to engage with furthering their artistic development by critically re (de)fining their practice. The student’s own artistic practice, with its questions, methods, and ambitions, is thus central to the program, and it will , in a substantial way, inform  how one’s individual study route/research and its forms and contents are to be developed.

The taught program is comprised of three educational strands-Compositional Models, Discursive Practice(s), and Art Branding-which address the tension(s) between notions and practices of improvisation and composition, process and product, and materiality and immateriality. These are the key lenses through which students are invited to think and challenge their practice. This will result in the articulation and production of three different but intimately inter-related discourses: The choreographic work itself, the written thesis, and the branding materials. At the very end of the program each student brings these three discourses together in the form of a final, public presentation.

The program is designed for dance artists who have already established a professional practice (at least 3 years) and who wish to maintain it while studying. Through a policy of number control the program provides maximum facilitation to a very limited number of students (3 to 4 once every two years), thereby enhancing both the quality of the studies as well as career perspectives after graduation.
