Event Description

Vangeline Theater/New York Butoh Institute presented the New York Butoh Institute Festival 2020 online, October 15-25, 2020, and now offers on-demand videos of the events exclusively at vimeo.com/vangeline/vod_pages, now through midnight on October 31, 2020. The Festival featured an exciting program of butoh workshops and exclusive Zoom performances of works by butoh dancers from Asia, Latin America, South Africa, New York, and the United States. Vangeline's nonfiction book, Butoh: Cradling Empty Space, was also released during the Festival with a free book giveaway.

In partnership with the Hokkaido Butoh Festival, a free screening of Butoh dancer Saga Kobayashi's performance is available online through midnight on October 31, 2020 at vimeo.com/467402316. Kobayashi was a principal dancer of the founder of butoh Tatsumi Hijikata.A free screening Red Flag on a Red Planet, by Vanessa Skantze, is also available at www.vimeo.com/vangeline.
