You are welcome to submit. MONO NO AWARE is an international exhibition open to any person or group of persons making contemporary art that incorporates Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm or altered light projections as part of a sculpture, installation, dance, or expanded cinema performance. 

Over the last 8 years, MONO NO AWARE has grown from 70 audience members on a single evening in 2007 to having 650 audience members over two nights in 2013. Submissions that came to us from the east and west coast of the United States, now arrive from all over the globe. Artists from a variety of backgrounds all looking for a platform to exhibit their work, a platform we have spent almost a decade cultivating. MONO NO AWARE has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Filmmaker Magazine and recently interviewed by BBC World News.

MONO NO AWARE is a non-profit arts organization based in Brooklyn New York working to promote the cinematic experience through art, film and literature. Taking its name from the Japanese expression meaning “the pathos of things,” MONO NO AWARE presents screenings as part of a series entitled CONNECTIVITY THROUGH CINEMA, operates filmmaking workshops 6 months out of the year in analogue filmmaking, runs an artist-run film lab, imports film stock form Germany, rents cameras and projection equipment, and hosts an annual international exhibition for contemporary artists and filmmakers whose work incorporates Super 8mm, 16mm, 35mm or altered light projections as part of a live performance or installation.
