POOL - MOVEMENT ART FILM Festival Berlin: September 13 – 17, 2023, DOCK 11, Berlin

POOL 23 will present a selection of fascinating international dance film productions, making the event a meeting place for creative minds involved in the fields of dance, film, fashion and art. The festival is focused on films that not only record dance but create independent film-choreographies through the intense interplay between dance and cinematic tools like the use of camera and editing.

POOL was founded in 2007 and has over the years developed a unique curatorial line, combining the presentation of contemporary movement-based films as well as historical artworks in the course of the format POOL Shine – New York Traces.

Throughout the year POOL aims to collaborate with various partners such as b12 Festival presenting selected film programs at diverse art events.

APPLY

Artists are invited to apply with dance films and dance animations. Films should not be longer than 30 minutes, nor should they be merely a documentation of a dance piece. Longer films may be taken into consideration for a special screening.

Films can be submitted online via our entry form, where we ask you to provide a preview link to your film. The deadline for applications is May 31, 2023.

PEARLS & ARTIST PRIZE

The curatorial team of POOL 23 will create a film program out of all the submissions that will be presented and shared with the Berlin audience over three evenings. The selected films – our PEARLS – are presented side by side and reflect the diversity of the genre.

Selected artists will be awarded the PEARLS ARTIST PRIZE that honours their continuous and unique work in the field of dance film. The available fee (6000 €) will be divided between the selected artists.

JOIN THE FESTIVAL IN PERSON

The festival’s aim is to be a meeting point for international artists, working at the interface of performing arts and film. All selected productions are cordially invited to join the screenings and their following get-together events in person. We support artists’ travel fees up to an amount and offer free accommodation in the guest rooms of EDEN*****.
