Event Description

C. Eule Dance presents the 2011 Season, with a 10th Anniversary Gala on May 16, 2011 at Dillon Gallery and Clean Springing X, a concert featuring the World Premieres of "Altered Fidelity" and "Gentleman from Cracow" on two weekends: June 11-12 and 18-19, 2011 at Salvatore Capezio Theater, Peridance Capezio Center.
In celebration of ten years of creating, performing and teaching dance, C. Eule Dance presents a 10th Anniversary Gala on Monday, May 16, 2011 from 6-9pm at Dillon Gallery, 555 W. 25th Street, NYC.  The evening begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6pm, followed by performances by C. Eule Dance and collaborating musicians at 7:15pm and a live auction at 7:45pm.  Benefit tickets are available online at www.ceuledance.org
"Clean Springing X" features nine works from C. Eule Dance’s ten year history presented in chronological order to showcase the progression of the company. The program begins with "Box Office" (2001), choreographed and performed by David M. Zlotchew, company member since the inaugural season.  "Almost Peachy" (excerpt, 2002) tells the story of a young girl’s dreams and the intrusion of her fantastical reality. A duet, the piece is performed by Caron Eule and Alexa Weir (June 11 and 12 only). "With Their Backs Exposed" (2003) is a contemporary ballet on pointe incorporating Indian motifs, where two women and one man engage in a sensual and acrobatic power struggle. Set to popular Brazilian songs, "Suite Brazil" (2004) presents three romantic encounters that occur at different times of day, each evoking a different mood. "Jazz Tunes of the ‘20s" (2006) is a suite of three humorous vignettes blending contemporary dance with musical theater elements set to popular songs recorded by The Manhattan Rhythm Kings. "Passage to Marrakech" (excerpts, 2010) is a suite of dances created to and based on the themes and stories of Pharaoh’s Daughter’s music that blends traditionally-inspired Jewish music with Arabic and African rhythms.  The World Premiere of "Altered Fidelity" was created in collaboration with Amir Khosrowpour, whose original score for prepared piano will be performed by David Broome, live on stage. The piece tells a story in which the piano becomes a protagonist who both influences and is altered by the other characters in the piece. The World Premiere of "Gentleman from Cracow", made in collaboration with visual artist Yuliya Lanina and composer Yevgeniy Sharlat, was inspired by Isaac Bachevis Singer’s story of the same name which tells a tale of a poor Polish town turned upside down by the arrival of a rich Doctor who turns out to be the Chief of Devils. Each weekend’s program also features a piece by a company member guest choreographer: Chie Mukai on June 11-12; Edgar L. Peterson, III on June 18-19.  "Clean Springing X" will be presented from June 11-12 and 18-19, 2011 at Salvatore Capezio Theater, Peridance Capezio Center, 126 E. 13th Street, NYC.  Performances:  Saturday at 8:30pm; Sunday at 7pm.  Tickets are $20 general admission ($15 students and seniors) and are available at 212-868-4444 or www.smarttix.com.
