New York, NY – Ballet Hispánico announces that, on Monday August, 29th, 2016, a heavy water main broke at the company’s home at 167 W. 89th Street, NYC, at about 9:30pm, forcing the building to remain closed through the Labor Day holiday.
“The studios were flooded on the first level of our carriage houses, and our entire basement was submerged in six feet of water. Sadly, our basement held most of our costumes for our student performances, BHdos, and main company performances. We are assessing the damage currently and hope to have more information on our loss in the next five days,” said Eduardo Vilaro, CEO and Artistic Director of Ballet Hispánico.
Ballet Hispánico serves over 600 students and families year-round in their 21,000 sq. ft. facility on the Upper West Side, in addition to providing rental rehearsal space for dance artists, community groups, and Broadway musicals and productions.
Those interested in registering for classes in the School of Dance can continue to register online. Walk-in registration will resume on Monday, September 12th and the School will continue to hold as many classes as possible throughout this process of restoration.
To aid in the recovery process, Ballet Hispánico has begun a Flood Recovery campaign. Donations may be given at www.ballethispanico.org/support/flood.

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE
This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.
We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary community interacting and embedded unstablelandscape.
This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
