Hey there! Good to see you....

Profile Information

Do you want this account to represent:
individual human (me)
About Me (human/individual)/interests, work..:
I'm a PhD student, a visual art lover, a curious observer and a DIY film-maker. Even though I can enjoy filming, I have a passion for editing. Given my background as a freelance musician and my training as an ethnomusicologist, I have a passion for rhythm in all its sensorial shapes and forms. I've a long-running love for video-art and recently I became interested in performance-art. I'm definitely not a dancer, but dancing with/behind/in front of a camera is definitely something I'm eager to explore.
Where are you based?(city and Country)
I live in Utrecht, the Netherlands. I study at Utrecht University. I'm based here but not definitively rooted here, I mean, I'm quite mobile. And Rome, Italy is my second (and original) base.
Areas of interest on performance and new media
I'm doing research about - let's say - hybrid film and video, at the crossroad between documentary and fiction. I am exploring issues related with the ‘representation of the Other’, at the intersection between documentary practices, realistic
techniques, fictional strategies and art experimentations. I am especially interested in exploring how the specific materiality of the technologies of such media, succeeds in engaging the senses, how and with which implications.
I'm interested in performance intending it as creative manipulation and display of bodies, (dis)placement of senses, production of representations. My interest lays specifically where the body interacts with the filmic medium, in front and behind the camera(s), in front or within the screen.
I approach new media in what they specifically do differently from the 'old' media. I'm interested in how media works, in their specific material and technical aspects, and in the social, cultural and political implications that they behold: media and power, media and knowledge production, media and social control. How media produce/reproduce bodies and how they construct/deconstruct cultural imaginaries, is the question that animates my research and, to a large extent, my daily life.
