About Me (human/individual)/interests, work..short bio/ THis is the most important. It is the only way to know that you are not a SPAMBOT!Be generous!: Vanessa Justice is a choreographer and performer living in Brooklyn. She founded Vanessa Justice Dance in 2007 as a structure to support ongoing movement experimentation, choreographic research, performances, and collaborations. She is developing a relational approach to choreography where divergent sources of information meet and create a context for interplay. Her work has been seen at home (Dance New Amsterdam, Danspace Project, The A.W.A.R.D. Show!, Joyce SoHo, Wesleyan University, SDSU, etc.) and abroad (republic Salzburg, Festival re:vision Warsaw, Theater Belacqua Wasserburg/Inn, Germany). She was awarded a 2009 Joyce SoHo Artist Residency, and recently has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Liguria Study Center (Bogliasco Fellowship), the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD), Movement Research, and Yaddo. She received a Graduate Research Award from the Congress on Research in Dance (CORD) for her research on how choreography challenges normative beliefs about the body. Supported by a Watson Fellowship, she spent a year studying and performing in Taiwan, Indonesia, India, and Germany. She earned degrees from Pomona College (BA Religious Studies/Philosophy) and The Ohio State University (MFA Choreography).
