Julian Rad has been working in the entertainment and show industries for the last seventeen years.

Based in New York City, Julian first started his professional career working on feature films, garnering credits in 32 major motion pictures including Batman Forever, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Carlito’s Way and Crimes and Misdemeanors. At the age of 21, he was distinguished by the Independent Feature Project as the youngest producer to bring an independent film to international acclaim with The Four Corners of Nowhere which made it’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 1995 and would later kick off the newly minted Sundance Channel in 1997. His documentary film The Franklin Cover Up was awarded the 1997 Roy W. Dean Documentary Feature Film Award, the 1997 Independent Filmmaker Feature Documentary Award and was a finalist for the 1997 Laura Napor Vision in Film Award. His fiction feature screenplay, Solace was a finalist for the Nichol’s Fellowship, the LAIFF Production Grant, the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab and the Scriptapalooza competition; his short film script Badlands was distinguished in 1998 as “One of the 10 Best Unproduced Short Films.” Beyond narrative, Julian has worked on 243 commercials; 431 Music Videos including specialized long form projects such as A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica and Mariah Carey: Butterfly Unbound; 17 television series and on 43 live televised events including Woodstock ‘94 and ‘99, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebrations for the City of New York, 1996 through 1999, Live by Request on A&E (6 seasons), Sessions at West 54th Street (4 seasons), David Bowie: Live at Madison Square Garden, Garth Brooks: Live in Central Park, and Dave Matthews Band: Live in Central Park. He was a Director for three seasons on BET’s Live at the Knitting Factory; highlights include Ryuichi Sakamoto, Diamanda Galas, Yoko Ono, Low, Ornette Coleman, Sun Ra and his Arkestra and the triumphant reunion of Vernon Reid and Ronald Shannon Jackson.

In the world of legit theater, Julian is the founder and producing director of Works Productions, who’s production of his “play with music” adaptation of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick, pulled in three 2004 Drama Desk nominations, including distinctions for Outstanding Play (writer and producer), Outstanding Director of a Play and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play, marking the first time in the 50 years of the Drama Desk award that an Off-Off Broadway production ever garnered nods in the Director or Play categories. Most recently, he produced the music-play Love Jerry as a part of the 2008 New York Musical Theater Festival which took four NYMF Best of Fest Awards (Best Book, Two Best Actor Awards and Best Ensemble), two NYMF Honorable Mentions (Best Director, Best Musical) and three Talkin’ Broadway Citations (Best Musical and Two Best Actor Citations). In the corporate world, Julian has guided productions for Canon, GlaxoSmithKline, Lucent Technologies, British Airways, Merck, Pfizer, Aetna US Heathcare, Insignia/ESG, IBM, American Airlines, 20th Century Fox, Miramax and Novartis. He was the Senior Multimedia Producer for Morgan Stanley for four years during which he procured three distinctions for excellence in Corporate Video for his internal documentaries “Getting to Know Corporate America,” “Faces of 9/11” and “Transformations”. Recently, he has partnered with Nickelodeon Online to promote the live show Go Diego Go! and the City of New York for the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Education.

Julian is an alum of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
