About Me (human/individual)/interests, work..short bio/ THis is the most important. It is the only way to know that you are not a SPAMBOT!Be generous!
My practice in time-based performance/installations combines digital/new media technologies and the sensitivity of the improvisational live performer/participant. The work emphasizes video’s capacity as a live medium and the illusory architecture of layered video projection in space. The seamless cinematic distance of pre-edited film viewing is ruptured by the awareness that the moving image is being constructed in the moment. The use of live-feed cameras re-maps the architecture of a space onto itself and incorporates the live presence of dancers and viewers into this layered landscape. The body is mediated while preserving the dynamic edge of the live performer. The performances are immersive environments that often explore a de-centralized performance space that supports an integrated reciprocal exchange between sound, image, movement, space.

The majority of my work has been collaborative in nature, working with people from other disciplines/backgrounds and establishing a group dynamic that optimizes what each person contributes. Such initiatives yield a generative hybrid that defies categorical definition. I have presented within many different contexts as the work moves fluidly between genres/disciplines. A particular love for improvisation and the interplay between sound and image has inspired many collaborative projects with musician/composers. Projects range from the use of a simple live laptop mix to working with streaming media feedback loops, multi-site network-based performance, and live multi-channel spatialized installation/performances. Working with emergent technologies has allowed for unique liberties to explore new constructs of meaning and experiential impact. I’ll add, however, that as complex as a project can become, it remains important for me that the technology remain transparent and driven by the artistic and poetic intent. Recent venues include the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art-Los Angeles, REDCAT/Disney Hall, the Getty Center, Springwave Festival/LIG Performing Arts Hall (Seoul, Korea), Decibel Festival/Seattle, Trampoline: Platform for New Media Art (Nottingham, England), the Stanford Jazz Festival, Issue Project Room and Engine 27 (New York), Arizona State University-West Interdisciplinary Arts & Performance Program (Phoenix, AZ), the Knitting Factory (LA), ArtSonje Center (Seoul, Korea) plus numerous festivals and performance series. This summer I was in residence at Montalvo Arts Center, Saratoga and a Master Artist-in-Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, FL. (Please see www.carolekim.com)

Humans exploring collaboration, coops, hybrid art, dance, embodiment, cognition, tech-science, networks, post-humanism and culture.

welcome to UNSTABLELANDSCAPE

WE LIVE WITHIN AN UNSTABLE LANDSCAPE

This is a social networking website connecting people concerned about innovation and experimentation on art, dance, embodiment, cognition, science, networks, post-humanism, media and the unstable landscape of contemporary culture and life.

We are in a transitional phase and refocusing the network with a broader interdisciplinary framework. It will reflect a contemporary  community interacting and embedded  unstablelandscape.

This network is maintained and administrated by Marlon Barrios Solano as an independent art/curatorial/social innovation project.
