I'm slowly learning max/msp - generally use Reaktor, Absynth, Ableton Live, Battery and other softwares. I'm finding that I feel comfortable using certain softwares in certain situations and I generally stay with those....I'm really starting to feel that when one names a software people assume a certain approach and sound and it frustrates me because to me each software is it's own instrument and I'm trying to make the music in my head on it. It reminds me of when I played drums many yrs ago and the questions were what brand of cymbals or drums are you using. My roommate and teacher at the time was Ray Charles original drummer and he made more music on a $25 pawnshop special than most other cats paying big bills for the name brands....Many times I feel that the software's bells and whistles set the tone for the piece instead of the creativity of the individual musician.
